Edward J Gorman, III, J.D., has served as CEO of American Community Partnerships (ACP) since helping found it in 1995. ACP helps low-income people develop careers paying living wages and benefits and engages in economic development to improve communities in which they live. Before that, he founded and led the Carpenters Health and Safety Fund of North America, a labor-management trust devoted to studying and remedying the health, safety and environmental threats facing construction workers and their employers. Along with developing critical research and policy recommendations in both of these positions, Mr. Gorman has raised over $50 million in funds to develop training and educational programs aimed at providing opportunities for the beneficiaries of these organizations’ respective missions. These funds trained over 50,000 workers and community residents in the U.S. and Canada.
Mr. Gorman has testified before and worked cooperatively with federal, state and local governments to improve the lives of working people and the unemployed, bringing practical, legal and policy solutions to longstanding problems that government seeks to resolve.
Mr. Gorman began his career practicing labor law as the former Associate General Counsel of the international carpenters union where he performed regulatory, legislative, litigation, and appellate work. Among others, Mr. Gorman was co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Labor Relations Section and co-chair of the DC Bar Labor Relations Section. He is also the author of numerous books and articles on labor law in the construction industry. Among other positions, Mr. Gorman is particularly proud of his work on behalf of National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) on whose board he has served for the past ten years.
